evening entertainment

To celebrate a fantastic summer of Head Out, Not Home early evening entertainment in the city, Les Poules à Colin will play for the first time in Norwich as part of the season finale.

The Head Out, Not Home summer events programme – organised by Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) in conjunction with NORCA & Sistema in Norwich launched on 4 July.  Running for 9 weeks every Thursday evening until 29 August, the city has come alive with live music and street performance.

The summer season will conclude in style as the fantastic Québécois folk group, Les Poules à Colin will be playing live at Open at 8pm on Thursday 29 August. This is one of only a few UK dates to see them live this summer.

This indie roots band will take to the stage with fiddle, guitar, lapsteel, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and foot percussion, creating a rich and varied backdrop for their inventive arrangements. Singing primarily in French, with a few English songs, Les Poules à Colin reveal a unique and modern perspective on traditional Québec culture.

Taking their name from a traditional song, Les Poules à Colin channels the old medieval ballads and sugarshack dance tunes of Québec.

This band of young Francophone musicians was raised on folk music, but their new sound, as heard on their brand-new album MOROSE, owes as much to shimmery indie pop as it does to deep tradition. With ethereal vocals that mask biting social commentary and lyrics from old songs, and the slap and thump of French-Canadian foot percussion (think of a grinding beat that lopes like a heartbeat), they’ve got an entirely fresh sound.

Come and see this exciting band play for the first time in our beautiful city of stories.

Tickets are £11 and £8 for concessions (+booking fee of £1), available from Open
