Lowestoft Library Literary Festival

The Friends of Lowestoft Library are holding a Literary Festival on Saturday 28th September 2013 at the Library.

The event will offer a range of activities for the community to enjoy and involve eight local authors showcasing their work and signing their books in the library.  The authors are Jayne-Marie Barker, Terry Tarbox, Suzan Collins, Ruth Dugdall, Patricia van Stratum, Rebeccah Giltrow, Ian Robb, and Nicola Upson.

The event will run from 9:30 am to 4:30pm and there will also be free children’s events throughout the day; drama games in the morning in the junior library and storytelling in the afternoon in the T-Zone.

There will be an area for children to colour in pictures of their favourite book characters, and put their creative minds into action with poetry writing sheets. The Bookstart Bear will also be popping in to enjoy the festivities. As well as engaging local people in reading activities, the Friends of Lowestoft Library are also aiming to raise money to support the library and the services it provides in the local community.

Tickets are available from Lowestoft Library at a cost of £2 for the morning session, £2 for the afternoon session, or £3 for the full day.  Children under 12 accompanied by an adult are free.

One of the authors who will be attending is Rebeccah Giltrow who is a member of the Friends of Lowestoft Library herself and has also recently started working at the library. Rebeccah has written several books and has her own website www.rebeccahgiltrow.com

She says: “We are thrilled to announce that we are holding our first Literary Festival at Lowestoft Library.  There is so much talent in this area, and we are so pleased that we can give a platform to some great local authors to display their work.  As a new author, I am looking forward to sharing my stories as well as meeting and hearing the other authors who will be performing at the Festival.  It’s an exciting time for Lowestoft and we’re extremely happy to be a part of it.”

The Friends of Lowestoft Library are always keen to hear from anyone who has any ideas or suggestions about the library, or who might want to volunteer to help at future events.
