Lowestoft’s Town Centres’ biggest car park is to re-open to theatre and bingo patrons next Tuesday with free parking available every night from six o’clock following a deal struck between Beacon Bingo, the Marina Theatre and Waveney District Council.

Management of Beacon Bingo & the Marina Theatre have negotiated the re-opening with the authority and their car park operator Waveney Norse which will see the Battery Green Car Park opened every night of the year – some years after regular evening opening was withdrawn.

The Multi Storey, above Wilkinson’s store will open every night exclusively for Beacon & Marina patrons with the Theatre and Bingo club paying the authority for the service which will include an attendant on duty. Management at both Beacon & the Marina are now actively encouraging their patrons to use the new facility, in the hope of easing parking difficulties in surrounding side streets and shop loading areas.

Martin Halliday, Chief Executive of the Marina Theatre Trust said,

“We are delighted that our Theatre & Cinema patrons and those attending Beacon Bingo will now be able to park free of charge every night at Battery Green Multi Storey Car Park, the car park is opposite the Marina and although alternative parking was made available in the area, its closure had understandably been a huge source of frustration to our patrons. We would like to thank the management at Beacon who joined us to negotiate this new evening parking service with the local authority and Waveney Norse for their speed in arranging the new service. We hope our patrons will now take full advantage of this facility.”

Paul Cooke General Manager of Beacon Bingo commented,

“The lack of car parking around the town centre of an evening has been a major problem for our business for a number of years.  I am delighted that between the Marina Theatre and ourselves we have secured this facility to be available free of charge to our evening customers. The secure parking will give our customers peace of mind that their cars are safe while they visit us and this can only be a positive factor for the two largest entertainment venues in the town.”

The car park officially re-opens on Tuesday June 3, in time for the sell-out appearance of comedian Lee Evans at the Marina Theatre. Free parking for theatre & bingo patrons will be available from 6 to 11 every night excluding Christmas Day.
