your wellbeing in mind

The Mayor of Ipswich, Hamil Clarke MBE, will be opening a Carers Forum for those caring for someone with a mental health condition.

Organised by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and Suffolk Family Carers, the event covers various issues affecting those with mental illness and those who care for them.

The Carers Forum will be held on Thursday, 27 March 2014, 10am-4pm, at The Education Centre, 11 Fore Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP4 1JW. The event is free to attend and there is no need to book in advance.

Attendees will hear talks given by guest speakers from the Trust and other relevant organisations on topics including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), self-harm, mental health medication and how to work with psychosis.

The forum also creates a platform for people to share their own personal experiences of mental health, with service users and carers talking about topics such as their journey living with a personality disorder and how a successful businessman lives with bi polar.

Complementing the talks will be a number of stalls manned by various Trust departments, voluntary groups and charities including Suffolk Family Carers and MIND, who will be able to explain the services they provide and how to access them. Suffolk Library Service will also be inviting their living library to share their stories.

In addition, the day will also offer free taster sessions in holistic therapies such as reiki and reflexology.

Carers forums are open to service users and any members of the public who are interested in mental health issues, as well as professionals who wish to network with others in their field.

The Trust organises regular Carers Forums throughout Suffolk and Norfolk.
