Easton & Otley College Students are ‘decking the (Dragon) Hall

When decorated for the season there are few more festive buildings in Norfolk than the ancient Dragon Hall. This year Floristry students from Easton & Otley College will decorate the historic hall as part of their Floristry BTec Level 3 Diploma course. Wherever possible they will use traditional methods and materials to construct their designs. College Floristry tutor Gillian Lincoln said ‘This real life scenario is an excellent opportunity for the students to support their goal of becoming professional florists.’ There will also be splendid Christmas trees donated by Norwich’s Mousehold Garden Centre.

The first of this year’s Christmas events is A Medieval Christmas on Sunday 1 December which will provide seasonal cheer for all the family. Children have the opportunity to visit  Medieval Father Christmas Uncle Holly in his medieval grotto to receive a themed gift, there will be mulled wine for adults and mince pies for all. Family workshops will help everyone to make their own traditional decorations, Dragon Hall’s own Mummers Group will perform a traditional Christmas play and live early music will be played throughout the afternoon.

There is a photo opportunity on Wednesday 27th November from noon- 1pm when students will be preparing work and decorating historic Dragon Hall.

The following weekend marks the return of Dragon Hall’s spectacular, season defining Medieval Christmas Market. Now firmly established as a highlight of the Norfolk Christmas calendar it gives the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre and immerse yourself in traditional medieval festivities in Norwich’s much loved 15th century medieval trading hall. This unique Christmas shopping experience has costumed stallholders from all over the UK and Northern Europe with exclusive wares, forgetting the city centre is just 3 minutes walk away. Period musicians in traditional dress will play each day and a fully licensed bar will serve local Norfolk ales alongside the opportunity to enjoy mulled wine and delicious seasonal food inspired by German Christmas markets.
