GWR PANNIER TANK 9466
JINTY 47406
LMS Class 3F “JINTY”
Is a colloquial name for a series of 0-6-0 tank engines made by the London Midland and Scottish Railway [LMS] built between 1924 and 1931, evolving from an earlier design by the LMS’s Samuel Johnson and updated under Sir Henry Fowler’s reign as Chief Engineer.
47406 is one of a handful of similar engines escaping the scrapyard experience.
Research suggests that it entered Barry scrapyard in South Wales in 1967 and was rescued in 1983, moving finally to the Great Central Railway, which has released it for the MNR’s Gala Weekend.
