The Big Latch On in Thetford

Mums in Thetford are being invited to join in with The Big Latch On, at an event being held by Norfolk’s community health trust.

Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) will be backing the international campaign to promote breastfeeding, at its children’s centre on Kingsway on Friday, July 31. Registration is at 10am, for a 10.30 start.

Held around the world at registered locations, to coincide with National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, each event will see groups of mothers coming together to feed their child or children simultaneously, at a set time, for one minute.

A team of NCH&C’s health visitors will also be on hand to support mums at the Swaffham children’s centre on White Cross Road on the same day.

NCH&C’s Children’s Centre teams are made up of health visitors, family support workers, speech and language therapists, early help social workers, and infant mental health specialist practitioners. They bring together health and family services to deliver a range of activities and support to families in their homes and communities.

Mandy Wagg, NCH&C’s Infant Feeding Lead, said: “It’s a great way for women in the community to get together and support breastfeeding in their communities. Events such as these help raise awareness of breastfeeding in a really positive way and show cases just how passionate Norfolk mums are about breastfeeding.

“Breastfeeding is important because it protects babies against a wide range of illnesses, including gastroenteritis and respiratory infections in infancy as well as allergies and diabetes in childhood. It can also help protect mum too, by reducing the risk of some cancers.

“Any breastfeeding mum is very welcome to come along and join us on the day. Other family members are welcome too.”
