National Storytelling Week book launch in Ipswich

Venue: La Tour Cycle Cafe, 7 Waterfront, Ipswich, IP4 1FT

Date: Wednesday 13th February, 12 noon – 3pm

This National Storytelling Week, Suffolk Artlink are delighted to announce the public launch event for a limited edition book featuring a collection of stories, illustrations, word art and poetry, created by Suffolk-based adults with learning disabilities.

Suffolk Artlink’s JumpstART arts training course is for people with learning disabilities, and offers students the chance to enjoy an in-depth exploration of an art form whilst developing creative and life skills.

Jumpstart Student Patrick Parker

During the last module, students from Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich enjoyed learning about creative ways to write and tell stories.  With the support of professional artists, each student developed their own story over 15 weeks into a colourful and engaging collection of art works using techniques including print-making, word art, painting and model making.

This event will exhibit a wide variety of the stories and artworks created during the course, including the launch of a limited edition book of the students’ work.

Charlie Meyer, Suffolk Artlink Project Officer, said: “Being creative is a great way to explore our imaginations and reflect on our life experiences. It’s been brilliant to watch our students’ confidence grow as they enjoyed working together creating and telling their own stories.

“We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy artworks and readings from ‘Telling Stories’, a special book celebrating our students’ lives and imaginations.”

Books and prints will be available to purchase at the event, and refreshments will be available from La Tour Cycle Cafe.
