Suffolk Libraries and Macmillan Cancer Support are working in partnership to provide a new collection of books to help provide support and information for people affected by cancer.

The book collection will be available from several libraries in Suffolk from next week (13 May) which marks the start of cancer prevention week.

Suffolk Libraries have been working with Macmillan Cancer Support to create the collection of 31 books and 40 leaflets which cover a variety of different cancers and are aimed at different audiences including some for children who either have cancer or are dealing with a relative or friend with cancer.

The information is current and relevant as it has been carefully selected by colleagues working at Macmillan Cancer Support.

The collection will be launched in Ipswich County Library and Lowestoft, Bury, Haverhill, Beccles and Felixstowe libraries and will be available for anyone to request from their local library.

Each item includes local contact details for further support from Macmillan Cancer Support in Suffolk.

The collection will be launched in Cancer Prevention Week with promotional posters and information going out to all GPs surgeries, special cancer units and with community care workers visiting people in their own homes.

Helen Haynes, Information and Content Librarian at Suffolk Libraries, said: “Cancer is something that affects many people of all ages and libraries can play their part in providing access to some comprehensive information which we hope they will find supportive and helpful.”
