Productions from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House & Royal Shakespeare Company are to be beamed live into Lowestoft from September after the town’s Marina Theatre announced it will present some of the World’s best Drama, Opera & Ballet on its new Digital Screen.

Following a major investment in the Theatre’s projection and sound systems earlier this Summer, the venue is now able to screen live and recorded events on one of the largest cinema screens in the region, complimenting its existing film and live show programme.

The first season to be announced includes major drama from the Royal Shakespeare Company, as former Dr Who actor David Tennant stars in Richard II, Operas Turandot & Don Giovanni and Ballets including The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty & Giselle – all live from the Royal Opera House. National Theatre productions to be screened include Coriolanus live from the Donmar Warehouse & Othello, with encore screenings celebrating the National Theatres 50th Anniversary including Hamlet & Frankenstein.

To mark the Britten centenary there will also be an opportunity to catch the recent production of his opera Peter Grimes which was performed earlier this summer on the beach at Aldeburgh, with many more events set to follow.

Marina Chief Executive Martin Halliday said, “We are pleased to announce details of our new Live Screenings. Following major investment in our screen, digital projection and sound systems earlier this year, audiences will now be able to enjoy some of the very best drama, ballet & opera performances from around the world here in Lowestoft and our aim is to combine these productions with the very best cinematic experience possible.”

The first scheduled live screening at the Marina will be a production of Puccini’s Turandot from the Royal Opera House on September 17 2013, before that there is a chance to catch the recent Britten opera, Peter Grimes on September 8.
