Birth of Poppyland Cromer: New Tour

The Birth of Poppyland in Cromer

New Tour from Paul Dickson Tours

This 1 hour 45 minutes walking tour in Cromer, with guide Paul Dickson, looks at the development of the town as a tourism destination from the late 18th century up to World War I.

The tour features the story of Clement Scott, who first described the area as Poppyland in 1883 and other writers who followed in his wake. We look at the development of the promenade and the seafront, the golf course, bathing machines, Victorian hotels, Cromer Pier, the impact of the railways, seaside fun and more.

The tour starts outside Cromer Parish Church, Church Street, Cromer NR27 9HH
