Volunteers from Norfolk Deaf Association’s (NDA) Hearing Support Service visited NDA’s new head office at Meridian Business Park, Norwich on Friday, June 22 for a lunchtime reception to mark the charity’s 120th birthday.

Aliona Derrett, Chief Executive Officer, Norfolk Deaf Association explained: “Our Hearing Support Service looks after 11,000 Norfolk residents with NHS supplied hearing aids. We could not operate the Service without our volunteers, so it was a pleasure to invite them to our new head office to celebrate our 120th birthday. We are always looking to recruit more volunteers as our service continues expand.”

Volunteers offer home visits, as well as a mobile clinic, which visits 28 towns and villages throughout Norfolk. There are also nearly 130 community clinics; most of which are for residents at nursing homes and sheltered schemes, but some are open to the general public. The volunteers look after hearing aids, clean and replace tubes, fit ear moulds correctly, replace filters, supply new batteries and provide advice on how to get the most out of hearing aids.

Meanwhile NDA raised £1,491 to support the cost of its office move at the Turn it Down! event, staged on June 16 at Epic Studios. Two bands, The O’Fenders and The Visitors provided the entertainment on the evening.

Aliona Derrett added: “We had an excellent evening at Epic Studios. I would like to thank everyone who supported the event, including our sponsors, Breakwater IT, Hatch Brenner Solicitors, M+A Partners, Rotary Club of Norwich, Rotary House for the Deaf, Sarabec and the bands, The O’Fenders and The Visitors.”

Other 120th anniversary events feature a Charity Golf Day at Eaton Golf Club on August 3, a sponsored parachute jump on September 23 and a wine tasting evening on October 26.
