Norfolk duo to bring a bit of ‘squit’ to Beccles town theatre

A popular Norfolk double act will be crossing the border later this month to perform their latest show at a Beccles theatre.

If It’s Laughter Your After with Olly Day and Nigel ‘boy’ Syer takes place at the town’s Public Hall and Theatre on Saturday, May 25.

With decades of experience between them, the seasoned professionals have built up a huge following across East Anglia, with their latest variety show featuring the usual much-loved mix of comedy, music, magic and some good ole Norfolk yarn.

“We are really excited to come back to Beccles,” said Olly. “For 17 years I did a variety show at the Public Hall for the local police, so it will be nice to get a chance to do a show in the town again.

“Nigel and I actually grew up in the same road in Norwich, although we didn’t know each other until we started working together at the same Norfolk functions – the rest is history really.”

Olly and Nigel have been performing to full houses in the longest running summer season show at Gorleston, while Olly has spent the past eight years starring in the End of the Pier Christmas Show at Cromer.

“The Beccles audience can expect some music from Nigel on his accordion, as well as some local jokes, while I’ll be doing magic with audience participation,” said Olly.

“During the second half we will unite for The Fisherman, which is an affectionate look at the east coast fishing industry.”

The pair will be joined by special guest Rachel King, who will entertain on a variety of instruments, including the pan pipes.

This week at the theatre the first in a new series of Friday night films will be screened. Bohemian Rhapsody is on Friday, May 17, while on Saturday, May 18, international tenor Jack Ollett is back for one night only with his concert Bring Him Home, featuring some favourites from the West End and the Rat Pack.

Tickets for all shows are available from the box office, open Monday to Saturday, 10am-3pm. Alternatively call 01502 770060, or visit www.becclespublichall.org.uk
