If you are looking for great days out during the Summer holiday season then the National Garden Scheme in Norfolk has six gardens opening their gates for visitors during August. Each garden particularly welcomes families with children under the age of 16 entering free of charge!

Lexham Hall nr Litcham PE32 2QJ opens midweek on Wednesday 1st August with the impressive walled garden has borders full of colour and the vegetable and fruit areas at their best. The nine acres of park and woodland walks are also a pleasant walk in the peaceful countryside surrounding the Hall.

Sunday 5th August there is a choice of three gardens. Long Barn at Newton Flotman, NR15 1QX  a beautiful setting in ancient parkland and by way of contrast the garden has a Mediterranean flavour.

North Lodge in Norwich NR2 3TN opens also on Sunday 12th August is a half- acre garden where the owners constantly develope new ideas such as a gothic conservatory, water features and even a classic temple!

In the charming historic village of Castle Acre two gardens combine to open Tudor Lodgings and Minns Farm Barns PE32 2AN provide colourful late summer borders and delicious home-made teas and snacks.

Bank House at Marshland St James, PE14 8JT opens on the 26th August and this delightful two acre garden showcases grasses and dahlias in its little oasis in the fens.

All these gardens will serve delicious home-made teas and all have plants for sale.

Since its foundation in 1927, The National Garden Scheme has donated over £50 million to its beneficiaries

Charities supported by the National Garden Scheme include the Queen’s Nursing Institute, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Carers Trust, Perennial, Parkinson’s UK and MS Society. Further donations are also made.
