With spring in full swing and the Easter holiday to look forward to, Norfolk NGS garden owners are busy polishing up their treasured plots ready for an influx of visitors keen to view and admire some of the best gardens in the County.

Every garden will also have plenty of delicious homemade teas on offer.

Friday 6th, Sunday 8th and Monday 9th April 2012
DESERT WORLD GARDENS, Santon Downham IP27 0TU

Opening from Good Friday right through to Easter Monday this is a plantsman’s paradise with a wide range of bamboos, primulas and magnolias on show and greenhouses bursting with 12,500 cacti. To celebrate the holiday weekend there will be plant hunts each day with prizes to be won!

A garden famous for its extensive arboretum with over 800 different species on show. There are masses of narcissi to enjoy in spring together with a large kitchen garden and traditional herbaceous and shrub borders.

A garden of contrasts with a RIBA award winning orangery. The formal lawn is hedged with yew and lesser species and a huge mulberry tree to admire along with other exotic tree species. There are also herbaceous borders and spring bulbs. It is a splendid setting for some fascinating garden sculptures and water features.

An ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ for the alpine and woodland plant enthusiast. Tiny garden with an abundance of rare and unusual plants especially tulips, daffodils, scillas and dog’s tooth violets, many more bulbous plants and an abundance of trilliums, wood anemones together with the National Collection of Muscari.

The National Gardens Scheme, which celebrates is 85th anniversary this year, organises the opening of almost 4000 private gardens in England and Wales. Entrance money at the garden gates plus profits from the sale of cakes, cups of tea and plants enables the NGS give away each year more than £2.5 million to nursing and caring charities.

Founded in 1927, The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) has donated more than £22 million to charity in the last ten years.

The NGS gave £2.6 million in 2011 to nursing and other caring charities from money raised by opening more than 3,800 private gardens in England and Wales.

The 2012 edition of the famous Yellow Book, listing opening details of all 3800 gardens is available to purchase from bookstores and garden centres or it can be ordered direct from the NGS – www.ngs.org.uk for £9.99 which includes all post and packaging charges.

Charities supported by the NGS include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices and Crossroads Care.
