Rhododendrons and azaleas are a floral triumph during May and this year promises to be the best display for many years. These plants thrive on the acidic soils often found in parts of Norfolk. During this month the National Garden Scheme has no less than five gardens opening where you can admire these magnificent plants.

Beginning on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May at WITTON HALL nr North Walsham NR28 9UF where a carpet of bluebells provide an ideal setting for the rhododendrons and azaleas.

On Sunday 14th May at Bolwick Hall at Marsham NR10 5PU you can enjoy walks around the lake with azaleas and rhododendrons reflecting along the lakeside.SHERINGHAM PARK, Upper Sheringham, NR26 8TL opens on Thursday 18th May displaying a fabulous  80 acres of species rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias throughout waymarked walks.

Opening on the 21st May LEXHAM HALL, nr Litcham PE32 2QJ the 3 acre woodland garden combines camellias and fine trees with the exotic mix and has a crinkle crankle walled kitchen garden.

On Tuesday 23rd May Stody Lodge nr Melton Constable NR24 2ER has spectacular displays of rhododendrons and azaleas culminating in over 2000 azaleas in the two acre water gardens. The colours and scents just take your breath away!

All the gardens highlighted will have home-made teas and several have plants for sale.
