Children’s books, toys, games, puzzles, dolls, dolls’ houses, dolls’ clothes, prams, teddies, ephemera, christmas cards and decorations, old-fashioned table settings, linens, lace, cutlery, china, glass, silver, furniture, kitchenalia, beautiful vintage clothes and accessories for dressing up on the day, gorgeous precious and costume jewellery, and so much more, plus all the stalls you expect from our normal monthly Fleamarket.

Saturday 15 December sees the last Norwich Original Fleamarket of 2012 which, according to owner Helen Leith, has proved an amazingly successful year. Since taking over the long-running central city antiques fair a year ago, her innovations have revived the event, seeing almost a quadrupling in the number of stallholders and visitors. She has made it a monthly event, plugging what she saw as a gap in the market. Her instincts proved correct, resulting in a huge leap in the fair’s reputation, quality of wares and footfall. Popular added extras include a draw to win money to spend at the fair, a different charity stall each month, and delicious home-made food from the Cloisters Cafe.

“We are now firmly established as the must-do monthly antiques fair in the city and I am always being complimented on what a friendly, fun, happy atmosphere there is at each event” she says. “Our stallholders now come from Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex and every day I receive enquiries from dealers wishing to join the fair”. “Although it is still called a Fleamarket, in truth it is a good mid-range antiques and vintage fair, with something for everyone”. The range of goods on offer continues to grow, attracting well over 1,000 buyers through the door, many of them even making the trip from Europe. The overspill to the local economy is becoming increasingly noticeable too, with local cafes, restaurants, shops and even hotels benefiting.

“Of course a tremendous amount of hard work goes on behind the scenes to make all this happen and I would like to publicly thank everyone involved and all the support I have received from staff, stallholders, visitors, City Council staff, local institutions and businesses, the local and national press and media and many others. The Fleamarket is a much-loved business in the city, having been going since 1975 and there is no reason why it shouldn’t continue to thrive indefinitely.”

The finale to the year will be the lovely Christmas Nostalgia Fair on Saturday 15 December offering the most original shopping in the city to help recreate an old-fashioned Christmas.
