Open Garden Fundraiser

Norwich Puppet Theatre promises a beautiful day out, come rain or shine, on 12 May when we hold a fundraising event at the Bishop’s Garden in the heart of our fine city. This Open Garden event is a unique opportunity to visit the Bishop of Norwich’s stunning four-acre garden, to immerse yourself in puppetry and to support a local charity and arts venture. It is five years on from when the people of Norwich took to the streets to support us after our core funding was cut by the Arts Council, and we want to celebrate our going from strength to strength with everyone who has supported us throughout the years on this very special day.

The day allows visitors to explore the private garden, its large herbaceous border, the wild maze and lots of other garden treats not normally available for public view. For green fingered visitors, or anyone who’s inspired by the botanical beauty of the garden, there will be stalls selling plants on the day. Drink in the picturesque surroundings with a tea and home made cake, and enjoy our musical and magical surprises. Children can drop-in to our Bugs and Butterflies Workshop (£2.50) and make their own puppet that they can explore the garden with. There will be performances throughout the afternoon of Garlic Theatre’s Can Fish Drink Tea, which follows the watery adventures of a submarine in the street, a fish in a cup of tea and the little tragedy of a teabag.

We are very grateful to Bishop Graham and his wife for allowing us to share the gardens with the public. All proceeds will be used to support the work of our arts charity.

Two access gates on the day: The Bishop’s House, Bishopgate, Norwich, NR3 1SB.
