Norwich is the UK’s first sharing city, and this special status was recognised last week at a national awards ceremony held by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM).
The annual ATCM awards showcase best practice in addressing key issues and challenges by towns and cities across the UK and Ireland. Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) received a special recognition award for leading the way in Norwich becoming the UK’s first sharing city and the uniqueness of the Norwich Sharing City campaign.
Norwich was highlighted as an exemplar, through the promotion of innovative services and schemes that businesses, the public sector and the community can share to address issues around sustainability and productivity. The award celebrated Norwich Joining the Sharing Cities Alliance and putting Norwich and the UK on the map, as a progressive city to an international audience.
The award was presented to Stefan Gurney, Executive Director and Aidan Lewis, Project Officer of Norwich BID, leading partners of Norwich Sharing City with Norwich City Council.
Caroline Bidewell, Head of Operations, Norwich BID and Project Lead for Norwich Sharing City said, “It’s fantastic for Norwich Sharing City to be once again recognised at a national level and to be presented with this special award. Norwich is firmly on the map as the UK’s first Sharing City and we hope that enthusiasm continues for the sharing economy in the city”.
