MOONLIGHT (15)

on Monday 20 Nov at 7.30pm.

Director: Barry Jenkins.  USA 2016.  111 minutes.

A coming of age drama set in contemporary Miami which caused a stir when it won 3 Oscars including the coveted Best Picture Award. MOONLIGHT chronicles the childhood, teens and early adulthood of Chiron, a gay African-American growing up in a tough neighbourhood with a crack-addict mother.  The film portrays an intensely personal search for identity while offering a window on a world rarely seen on screen.  Like all the best films, MOONLIGHT is both specific and sweeping: a timeless story of self-discovery.

‘A heart-breaking, uplifting, minor-key masterpiece.’ Mark Kermode in the Observer.

Seats for film club shows £5 and £2.50.  Apologies, no other concessions.

The Bungay Film Club presents

NERUDA (15)

on Monday 27 Nov at 7.30pm.

Director Pablo Larrain.  Chile 2016.  105 minutes.
In Spanish with subtitles.

This colourful drama from Chile centres on the Nobel Prize winning poet, politician and diplomat, Pablo Neruda.  After denouncing Chile’s right-wing president in 1948, Neruda goes into hiding, pursued by an inept detective, Inspector Peluchonneau. An entertaining and original film, boasting excellent performances from the two leads and handsome location photography as it follows its characters from the ocean to the ice-capped peaks of the Andes.‘Sweeping, poignant, bizarre, funny and unique.’ Nicholas Barber in Newsweek.

Seats for film club shows £5 and £2.50.  Apologies, no other concessions.
