Online radio drama club to help address rural isolation in Suffolk

A suffolk arts charity is launching a new online radio drama listening club next week, to help address rural isolation in Suffolk.

The club is part of ‘Make, Do & Friends’, Suffolk Artlink’s programme of creative activities aimed at adults (55+) (see note 2).

Since lockdown, the charity has moved much of the Make, Do & Friends programme online. The radio drama club is the next in a series of creative activities that are being made available digitally to people living in Suffolk’s rural communities.

Suffolk artist, Lynn Whitehead, will be delivering the radio drama listening clubs. She explains: “A radio drama club is a bit like a book club, but without the homework!

“We choose a radio play, listen together online and then chat about its themes, the acting, sound effects, and anything else that we’ve found interesting about it!

“It’s a really great way to stay connected with others, whilst finding new inspiration for things to enjoy at home as the evenings draw in.

“Even when we can’t meet up with others in person, we can still share a relaxed activity together and then have a chat. You’ll have to make your own tea and bring your own cake – but you won’t have to change out of your slippers.”

The online radio drama listening club sessions are free, and take place on Mondays, 11am – 12.30pm on the following dates:

7th December

21st December

11th January

25th January

8th February
