Norwich’s Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) is calling for new venues and organisations to take part in Heritage Open Days, which runs from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th September 2014. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the national free heritage event, and the 10th for which HEART has co-ordinated events locally.

Heritage Open Days (HODs) is England’s largest and most popular voluntary cultural event, celebrating the country’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to events and interesting properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. The annual programme includes open buildings, guided tours, exhibitions, talks, family activities, music recitals and re-enactments.

For this special anniversary year, HEART would love to hear from venues and organisations who haven’t taken part before, or from anyone with an idea for an event that they would like to organise to form part of HODs. HEART is particularly keen to have more child-friendly or evening events as part of this year’s celebrations.

Michael Loveday, CEO of HEART, said: “We are enormously proud that our army of volunteers has transformed HODs in Norwich and Norfolk into one of the largest events of its kind in the UK but this year, in our 10th HODs year locally and the 20th year nationally, we want lots of spectacularly new events and to ‘do different’. So if you’re sitting on a heritage gem that the public never gets to see, help us to make it a star for HEART’s HODs 10.”

If you are interested in organising an event or would like to find out more, please contact Jo Archer by emailing [email protected], calling 01603 305575 or writing to Jo Archer, Norwich HEART, The Guildhall, Gaol Hill, Norwich NR2 1JS. Events must be free to attend but all necessary insurance, and full publicity will be provided by Heritage Open Days, and venues can fundraise during events, for example by holding plant or cake sales.
