Participants wanted for the great pancake race
King Street Mardi Gras – Tuesday 8 March 2011

As King Street’s second Mardi Gras event approaches next month, organisers SeaChange Arts are on the hunt for participants for their unique pancake challenge, Total Crepe.

“We started Total Crepe last year,” says SeaChange’s Laurie Miller-Zutshi, “as a way of blending the traditional British Pancake race with participation and artistic performance. It’s a way local individuals, organisations and businesses can get involved and show their support for the festivities…. But most of all its fun!”

Filled with bizarre challenges and activities to ensure maximum entertainment, this year’s Total Crepe is choreographed by Yorkshire based Markmark Productions.

“We’ve worked with Markmark productions before,” explains Ms Miller-Zutshi. “Their unique comedy style fuses farce, circus skills and improvisation. They’ll work alongside volunteers to ensure the race is a hilarious spectacle.”

The King Street Mardi Gras forms part of a multi-faceted approach to regenerate the King Street area as a new cultural quarter for the town, focussed around the redeveloped St George’s Chapel. The King Street Mardi Gras takes place on Tuesday 8 March, 6-8pm. Prospective participants should be available on that afternoon, from 3pm. They will also need to be available for one of two workshop sessions on Sunday 6 March, 2-5pm or Monday 7 March, 5-8 pm where they will be able to meet the performers involved and practice some of the challenges.

Join us from 4 to 6pm for plenty of masks, music and Mardi Gras mayhem!
