Pear Tree Centre reopens

Pear Tree Centre reopens April 12th 2021

A vital resource centre which brings information and support closer to home for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families will reopen on Monday 12 April.

The Pear Tree Centre in Halesworth will open on an appointment-only basis from 10am to 4pm to anyone from north east Suffolk or south Norfolk after temporarily shutting its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The support available will include advice on finance and benefits, as well as help understanding a diagnosis, coping with bereavement, family services and complementary therapies. Counselling can also be arranged for people who have lost close friends and family as a result of COVID-19.

To book an appointment or get advice over the phone, call 01986 899655 or email [email protected]. The charity is also continuing to work closely with Big C and would urge anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and needs emotional or practical support to call 0800 0927640 or visit www.support.big-c.co.uk

Seva Newrick, Pear Tree Centre manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we are now in a position to safely reopen the centre and look forward to welcoming visitors from 12 April.

“We have continued to provide help and advice over the phone during the lockdown, but still feel that face-to-face contact is incredibly important. Reopening the centre will allow us to offer that personal touch once more, while anyone who feels more comfortable accessing our support remotely will still be able to contact us by phone.

“Anyone who does come to the centre will be asked to sanitise their hands and wear a face covering or mask. Our staff will be following all of the latest government guidance to keep everyone safe, including wearing PPE where necessary, maintaining social distancing and regularly washing their hands. We have also introduced enhanced cleaning at the centre so that anyone who needs our support can be reassured that it is safe to visit us.

“As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, we unfortunately had to cancel all of our planned fundraising events during the last year, which means the charity has suffered a considerable loss of income. We are appealing for the public’s support to help us through this difficult time by donating to us or supporting us in other ways so that we can continue to deliver vital services for the benefit of our community.”

Dee’s Den, the Pear Tree Fund’s charity shop in Steeple End, Halesworth, will also reopen on Monday 12 April, and will be open daily between 10am and 1pm. Anyone who would like to make a donation is asked to only bring in items on Mondays and Thursdays.
