broadcaster Keith Skipper
Keith Skipper is returning by popular demand to Beccles Public Hall on September 8th.

Journalist, author and broadcaster Keith Skipper is taking the leap from Norfolk into Suffolk next month to entertain audiences with his unique take on local life.

The popular personality will make a welcome return to Beccles Public Hall for a Sunday afternoon mardle, with a huge helping of squit and wit thrown in for good measure.

Keith, who has both spoken and written about Norfolk since 1962, began his career at Eastern Counties Newspapers and now presents regular stints on Radio Norfolk.

He was the ‘ringleader’ of The Press Gang, a group of Norfolk entertainers who travelled around the county for 25 years, providing laughter to thousands of people, while raising money for charity.

He will be on the Beccles Public Hall stage from 2.30pm on Sunday, September 8th.

“It’s true, I’m going abroad again,” said Keith. “Although I have actually undertaken some missionary work in Suffolk before. Three members of the Press Gang are from Suffolk, so that’s always kept the good ole cross-county friendly rivalry going.

“When you think about Suffolk there’s good ale, a beautiful countryside, the football team is variable, but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of competitive spirit and it’s all good clean fun.

“The Friends of Norfolk Dialect (FOND) which I helped to set up, is 20 years old this year, so I think this missionary work is important to extol the virtues of the unique linguistics of people from Norfolk.

“My mardles shall also cover my years as a Norfolk sage, my career, and some readings from Suffolk, by the likes of Adrian Bell.

“I’m looking forward to hopping over the border, with the hope of getting back before dark. I don’t want my taste for adventure to reach its peak!”

Lesley Cox, Event Coordinator at Beccles Public Hall said: “We are so excited to have Keith in Suffolk again. His observation of local life is second to none. And he has such a gift for making you laugh and think at the same time.“
