The Royal Air Force Association

Beccles and Southwold Area Branch

Memorial Service at Kessingland

On Thursday, April 22nd 2010, Members of the Beccles Branch, working in association with Personnel from the USAF Base at Mildenhall and the Kessingland Parish Council, will attend the Serivce at The Holy Trinity Church for the Dedication of the Memorial to the 10 USAAF Aircrew who perished when their Liberator aircraft was attacked in 1944 over Kessingland and crashed.

The incident was witnessed by many in Kessingland at the time including RAFA Branch Member Mr John Blowers, who has made it his mission to provide a Monument to these brave U.S. Servicemen that were assisting us against the evils of aggression in World War 2.

RAFA Branch Chairman Mr Brian Vousden who is coordinating the Military aspects of the Dedication Service with the USAF Staff commented “John’s achievements in organising and progressing the successful funding and installation of the Monument is a credit to him and his efforts. Like many of us who survived the War, he is very grateful for the involvement and Sacrifice of our America Allies in the struggle against Nazi tyranny”.
