While Harleston’s exciting Mayflower 400 programme is on hold you can learn fascinating stuff about life in this part of the world in the 1600s through a Mayflower 400 e-Newsletter. The first issue will be sent out at the start of May and will focus on the inns of Harleston, in particular the history of The Swan Inn, and their role in local society, as well as the realities of travel in the early 17th century.

Future issues will be sent out on 1st of each month until October and will focus on the role of Parish Constables, the history of Redenhall Church and the role of churchwardens, politics in the reigns of James I and Charles I, history of the plague in the first half of 17th century and the economy and society in early 17th century Norfolk.

This includes new research from original documents carried out by the Harleston Local History Research Group, led by Stephen Poulter. Thanks to Gordon and Janine Lascelles, David Seddon, Pat Douglas, Jill Tan, Margaret Griffiths, and to Julie Craven of Hoxne for her transcribing expertise.
