Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice, first staged on Broadway in 1971.
The musical is based loosely on the Gospel’s account of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with his triumphant arrival in Jerusalem and ending with his crucifixion, largely following the form of a traditional passion play, which has become hugely popular and successful worldwide, winning numerous awards and acclaim and now enjoying a huge revival with the professional O2 Arena Tour in 2012/13.
Redgrave Church Heritage Trust is proud and privileged to have been granted a licence, by kind permission of The Really Useful Group, to perform this masterpiece of musical theatre in the beautiful 14th Century Church of St. Mary’s, Redgrave.
Although an amateur Church production, we boast an enthusiastic and talented cast of 55 drawn from the local community of actors and singers, with a stirring score played by a live orchestra.
By turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar is a dramatisation full of thought provoking edge and explosive theatricals, bringing Christ’s final days to the stage in the greatest story ever told.
Performances are May 15th-18th 2013 at 7.30 pm – doors open at 7 pm. Free parking, refreshments, bar.
Tickets are available at £15.00 online from www.ticketsource.co.uk/redgravechurch, booking and information from M. Hayward 01379 898726.
