New Driving Licence Rules came into force as from 19th JANUARY 2013 (CATEGORY B and B+E) for Drivers who want to Tow.

THE NEW RULES WILL APPLY IF YOU PASS YOUR TEST ON OR AFTER THAT DATE.

Anyone who passed before this date will NOT BE AFFECTED.

If you already hold a Licence with category B and B+E  you will retain this entitlement to drive and tow.

To TOW HEAVIER TRAILERS after 19th JANUARY 2013 you will need to follow rules below.

NEW DRIVERS FROM 19th JANUARY 2013 

IF YOU PASS YOUR TEST TO DRIVE CARS /SMALL VEHICLES UP TO 3500kg (Cat B ) AS FROM 19th JANUARY 2013 YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TOW:

  • (a) Light Trailers weighing no more than 750kg.
  • (b) or Trailers weighing more than 750kg where the combined weight of the tow vehicle (the car) and the Trailer is not more than 3,500kg.

To tow Trailers weighing more than 750kg where the combined weight of tow vehicle and Trailer is more than 3,500kg you will have to pass a further test in order to obtain Cat B+E.

After passing the B+E test the Trailer you tow must not be heavier than 3.500kg and combined weight must not exceed more than 7,000kg.

TO TOW A TRAILER THAT WEIGHS MORE THAN 3,500kg YOU WILL NEED TO PASS AN ADDITIONAL test for CAT C1E  Medium size goods vehicle with trailer…
