The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg contains one of the greatest collections of art in the world.Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great, it occupies the Winter Palace in the former Russian imperial capital.
Catriona Kelly, author of St Petersburg: Shadows of the Past, Simon Dixon, author of Catherine the Great and Peter Waldron, author of The End of Imperial Russia will address the very particular history of the city and The Hermitage itself, showing how the modern experience of St Petersburg and its foremost museum has been shaped by the past.
