SEACHANGE ARTS LAUNCH A REGULAR TEA DANCE WITH THE RAGROOF PLAYERS

SeaChange Arts launch a regular monthly Tea Dance with the acclaimed Ragroof Players at their Drill House venue in Great Yarmouth on Saturday 24 March 2018.
Acclaimed around the country for their participatory dance work, The Ragroof Players bring DJs playing authentic music from the 1920s to the 1950s and the company’s trademark instant dance classes get everybody on their feet to trip the light fantastic.
With an inclusive approach to their dance events that welcome experienced and novice dancers alike, Ragroof help coach participants through a number of classics dances from yesteryear.
“Everyone is welcome. No partner needed,” explains SeaChange’s Senior Producer, Veronica Stephens. “Ragroof’s unique approach to partner dancing encourages everyone to learn the steps of both lead and follow, rather than be dictated to by gender.”
The afternoon of vintage delights will see Ragroof leading vintage dances like the Charleston, Waltz, Mambo plus some scintillating Jive and Swing. Tea, cake and bar available. Dressing to impress encouraged.
The Drill House Tea Dance launches on Saturday 24 March, 2-5pm with subsequent events on 28 April and 12 May. Tickets are £5.00 and are available at www.seachangearts.org.uk
Ragroof Players: Biography
The Ragroof Players create site-specific and street theatre shows, community engaged and participatory performance projects, and bespoke events and commissions. Ragroof’s work is usually placed outside of theatres and arts spaces, challenging restricted and outmoded expectations of ‘community and participatory arts’. When venturing into dedicated art or theatre spaces, it is with the intention of bringing people into those spaces who would not usually be found there. Accessibility, integration and participation are not an ‘outreach’ aspect of our work – they are our work.

Great Yarmouth based but collaborating internationally, SeaChange are an independent arts development charity dedicated to delivering outstanding Circus and Street Arts events. Working as the arts development and promotion agency for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, we also run creative projects of many kinds.

Much of this work is showcased each year at the Out There Festival. Produced by SeaChange, Out There is now the region’s largest free festival of street arts and circus and regularly attracts audiences in excess of 60,000 people.
