Send a smile with Santa: over 900 donated gifts required for Christmas

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Charity is calling on local people and businesses to donate more than 900 gifts so that every patient at NNUH wakes up to a present from Santa this Christmas.

While many people, young and old, will be lucky enough to celebrate at home with their families this year, some will be spending their Christmas Day with the staff at the N&N. To brighten their hospital stay the N&N launching their ‘Send a smile with Santa’ Christmas Present Appeal with the aim of providing a present to EVERY patient staying on a ward in the hospital on Christmas Day.

Emma McKay, Director of Nursing, said: “We do all we can to help as many children and adults  as possible spend Christmas at home, but unfortunately at times they are too poorly and it isn’t possible. The hospital staff work hard to make Christmas a happy time for patients and families of all faiths, but to make it extra special we would like the public to help by donating gifts.  We’re determined that our patients do not miss out on the magic of Christmas simply because they are in hospital.”

Drop off points for presents on the hospital site include West Outpatients reception, West Inpatients reception, East Inpatients reception, East outpatients reception, The Pod, Café Pure and the main restaurant.

You can also drop presents off at various Natwest branches including: Wymondham, Diss, Cromer, North Walsham, Norwich London Street, Norwich Boundary Road, Norwich St Stephens Street, East Dereham and Great Yarmouth. You can also drop off at Co-operative travel Cromer branch.

Louise Cook NNUH Fundraising Manager commented: “Christmas is about giving and we have been amazed at the amount of support shown to other Christmas appeals in previous years. This is the first year we are aiming to provide a present for everyone and would like to see patients of all ages benefit from a bit of Christmas cheer. Some of our patients do not receive any visits on Christmas day so a gift shows that someone cares. The gifts do not need to be large and can be items such as a small box of chocolates or a scarf from a discount store. ”

All presents need to remain unwrapped so that the hospital can then ensure that presents are personally picked and wrapped for each patient as well as to protect against infection.

For more information on the appeal, or to offer a drop off location, please contact Louise Cook on 01603 287107 or email [email protected].

Please can all presents be dropped off by Friday 11th December 2015 to allow time for wrapping and distribution.
