shadow-puppets-workshops

A series of story-making workshops with shadow puppets are being held in six libraries in west Suffolk next month to inspire local children and families.

The workshops are being held at Clare, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Mildenhall, Newmarket and Brandon Libraries.

The workshops are being run by Wishworks in partnership with Creative Arts East and follow a series of performances in libraries in July. The workshops are £2 to take part in and will give children a chance to create their own story and watch it come to life with shadow puppets after which they will have the opportunity to perform their story themselves.

It is hoped the popularity of Britain’s Got Talent winners ‘Attraction’ with their shadow performance will create more interest in the workshops which have also been organised to coincide with the Summer Reading Challenge which is running in all libraries to get children reading throughout the summer.

The performances in July have already excited and entertained local school children who left libraries buzzing about the shows. One group of teachers and pupils who attended the performance at Newmarket Library said it was “The best Monday morning they’d ever had.”

The Summer Reading Challenge aims to get children engaged with libraries and challenges them to read six books throughout the summer holidays for which they earn rewards including scratch and sniff stickers. The theme this year is Creepy House – http://suffolkreads.onesuffolk.net/home/summer-reading-challenge-2013/
