FAMILY-RUN Global Signs & Engraving is moving to Beacon Park, enabling them to expand and create jobs, while helping to free-up further space at South Denes to unlock opportunities for offshore energy sector-related businesses.

Following an agreement with Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Global Signs & Engraving will relocate next month from its old base on Admiralty Road to two brand new industrial units on the Blackfriars Court quarter of the acclaimed Enterprise Zone site.

The move is part of work to establish the Great Yarmouth Energy Park at South Denes, ensuring that businesses related to the energy sector continue to have land available, close to the riverport and Outer Harbour, so the borough is best placed to capture the significant future jobs, investment and regeneration opportunities anticipated in the sector.

Although Global Signs service the energy sector as part of their customer base, they do not need to be located at South Denes. Their old base will soon be marketed to the energy sector and port-related companies.

In 2016, Europcar, a vehicle rental business, relocated from the energy park to North Quay. Their vacant former site has recently been cleared and is being actively marketed to energy businesses as Vanguard Point.

Cllr Graham Plant, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: “As England’s offshore energy capital, Great Yarmouth is at the forefront of £39bn of energy investment over the next 20 years. The world’s biggest offshore wind farms are already being built from the port, which is also home to a major decommissioning facility.

“The establishment of Great Yarmouth Energy Park is part of our work with partners to unlock further suitable space for offshore energy-related businesses, which need to be close to the port, to continue to relocate to and expand within the area and capture these significant jobs and growth opportunities for the borough and region.

“The relocation of Global Signs to brand new units at Beacon Park is just part of that important work and will also help the business itself to invest, grow and create jobs, so it’s a win-win situation and a sign of success.”

Robert Chandler, managing director at Global Signs, said: “This is a really positive move for Global Signs, as we’re starting to outgrow our old premises where we’ve been for about 20 years, and need space for more machinery so we can take on more work and staff.

“We don’t need to be near the port, so this move gives us the room to grow within a new base on a modern landscaped park – and it’s also good to know we’re helping the energy sector as well. We would like to thank Great Yarmouth Borough Council for their support and look forward to unveiling one of our own signs on our Beacon Park HQ!”

Cllr Brian Iles, vice chair of Norfolk County Council’s business and property committee, said: “This move is another positive step towards encouraging further investment in Great Yarmouth’s rapidly growing energy sector.

“The Great Yarmouth Energy Park is ideally located, useful for access to the deep water Outer Harbour and the quays and wharfs along the river bank. A number of sites on the park now benefit from Enterprise Zone status and the whole park will have superfast broadband.

“This further underlines the importance the county places on this significant opportunity. As a partnership, we will continue to promote the area to achieve further growth.”

Global Signs & Engraving was established in 1995 by Robert Chandler after he took over Lowestoft Engraving. Mr Chandler had previously worked for 25 years for the engraver John H Chandler & Sons, founded by his father in 1955. Global Signs keeps alive this family tradition, employing his brother John and daughters Michelle and Rachael.

Notes:

Great Yarmouth Energy Park comprises a 50-acre area of existing employment land, which is already subject to a Local Development Order (LDO), making the planning permission process for energy industry-related use very straightforward. The park is adjacent to the Enterprise Zone, which is already targeted at the energy industry.

The vision for the park is backed by key firms in the sector, including Seajacks, ODE and Aker Solutions, all of which have a Great Yarmouth presence, as well as organisations including New Anglia LEP, EEEGR (East of England Energy Group), Norfolk and Suffolk Energy Alliance, and Ventureforth, which owns about a third of the energy park site.
