SIT IN A STREAM in NORFOLK for LITTLE LIFTS

SIT IN A STREAM in NORFOLK for LITTLE LIFTS

A group of intrepid cyclists are making a charity-splash by visiting (and sitting in!) every river and stream in Norfolk!

The four day charity challenge will see the Sit In A Stream team cycle between every waterway in the county to raise money for Little Lifts, a Norfolk-based cancer support charity.

Starting in Hunstanton on 30th June, the trip will take the Sit In A Stream Team to every corner of Norfolk, ending the near 350 mile trek in Bawburgh on 3rd July 2022.

As well as cycling, other members of the Team are taking part in linked challenges to walk part of the route and some are even completing a 24-hour running session.

Event organiser Robert Goodson said: “The idea for this challenge came about after taking part in a ‘wild swim’ and getting hooked on doing this in our local rivers and fords. After thinking what all our local rivers would be like to swim in, an idea for a charity fundraiser was born!  The challenge has grown, from swimming in the more well-known rivers such as the Wensum and the Yare, to include any others we’ve managed to find! The list currently stands at around 60 rivers, streams or becks and it keeps growing.”

Fellow organiser John Ives said: “I lost my partner Becky from secondary breast cancer last year; she was only 39 at the time. She was a great supporter of Little Lifts and a good friend of the founder Oa. I know from personal experience how valuable the Little Lifts Boxes are to people starting radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatment so wanted to help support this fantastic and valuable charity by raising as much money as we can to help them support the emotional wellbeing of even more people.”

Founder of Little Lifts, Oa Hackett, said: “Little Lifts is honoured to be a part of this incredible event. The passion and enthusiasm from the Sit In A Stream team is infectious and the money raised will go towards our ambitious target of supporting 5000 people in 2022. Becky would have been so proud of all that is being achieved.”

Little Lifts is on a mission to support everyone who faces chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer, by giving them a Little Lifts Box at the start of, or during, their treatment. Little Lifts understands that every person’s experience of breast cancer treatment is different. That’s why each Little Lifts Box is full of items carefully selected to provide practical support, as well as mood-boosting goodies to promote emotional wellbeing – but it isn’t just what’s inside the box that provides support. Recipients tell them that the sense of solidarity and kindness they experience is equally valuable.
