U13s v Daventry – Saturday 18th Sept 2010
Southwold U13s 17 – Daventry RFC 0
(Utting 2, Trash 1 – conversion: Cawkwell 1)
We’re moved from Mini to Youth rugby and this means a new kind of fitness and a new kind of physical resilience. Our pre season fitness sessions clearly paid off because the boys didn’t seem to tire on Saturday. We dominated from the start playing our usual running rugby but our passing, usually impeccable, kept on letting us down. All our tries eventually came from unselfish running rugby and good support play. Cawkwell, Utting and McKay all made thrusting runs. Trash, Cullis and Alred all wrestled for possession. But Matt Sutton was our Man of the Match. He played at both centre and flanker and had an immense game with an impressive tackle count.
Daventry didn’t give up and their frustration began to spill over in the second half and our physical resilience was tested. The U13s are going to have to get used to this and respond accordingly. And, after responding accordingly, remember that when the game is over, the game is over and the social side begins!
