Southwold Rugby Match reports

Southwold U15’s 5 – Stowmarket 0  (Suffolk Plate)

Superb rucking and counter rucking from the pack allowed the Wold backs to use their pace. Alex Farrands and Zak Loader were soon putting tackles in to disrupt Stowmarket. Kerian Morling put in 3 excellent tackles in succession to break up some fine left wing play from Stowmarket. Quick hands only let down Wold when a knock on occurred with a 2 man overlap begging to score.

As the game ebbed and flowed it seemed that the percentage of play was in the Stowmarket half, with some superb retention of the ball by Wold. Olly Caulstroem ripped ball from a Stowmarket player, and fine passing and support play allowed Jacob English to step inside his tackler to score.

In what then seemed like an eternity attacking the Stowmarket try line, credit must go to Stowmarket for their defending. They were still in this game despite the territorial advantage that Wold held. Stowmarket came back into life, their number 8 made a rewarding run down the left, but a superb tackle from Connor Gooch brought him down.

A thoroughly entertaining game between 2 strong teams intent on playing rugby. Possession of the ball and territory does not always equate to the win, and no doubt on any other weekend they would have scored more points. But today Southwold were worthy winners. Special mention to the subs (Mark, Woody, Hugo and Sam), who all turned up but did not unfortunately get any game time. It is appreciated by all of the players and coaches.

Southwold U14s 29 – Clacton 0  (Suffolk Plate)

What a spectacle and what a spectacular start to Southwold’s U14s Suffolk Plate campaign. Despite the scoreline, this was a tough match against some very talented players – especially when Southwold had no one on the subs’ bench. But a combination of excellent support play, solid defence and sublime off-loading provided a memorable win. A genuine team performance means that no one individual should be highlighted. But our props jointly picked-up man-of-the-match for holding their own against two excellent Suffolk county props.
