Southwold Swallows 44 Chelmsford Ladies 5

Wold then was eager to get going again with the sun in their eyes in first half. The forwards gained ground from the catch and set going blind with impressive pick and go and forwards hitting the line being fed by Lucy Whayman at scrum half. The next try came from Remy Dowe crashing over the line from a penalty taken by Elora Parocki.

With support from Natalie Harvey, Jayne Rivett and Rianna Lees (captain) ensuring secure ball for Wold, this gave the backs chance to show their quick hands and strong lines of running for Jazine Wones drawing in her opposition. Jaye Ash found herself running off Jaz which ensured her scoring the first of two tries under the posts.  Remy’s conversion saw the home team 17 points in front.

Chelmsford now started coming into the game and put good pressure on the Wold ladies forcing them back into their own half however after a stolen ball from the ruck by Michalea Scarle recycled Chantelle Gallagher made a break from full back to get over the line for the 4th try. Minutes later, Chantelle managed to get another break after sustained pressure from Chelmsford pushed Wold back to almost the own try line. Wold never letting up in defence keeping Chelmsford out. Chantelle gathered the ball from Emma Catling going blind and breaking through their defence, sprinting the full length of the pitch before being brought down just yards before the line. Quick support from Bev Whyte meant that she was able to take the pop pass and crashed over the line under the posts.  Converted by Remy, Wold finished at half time 29 – 0 in front.

The second half saw Wold’s subs coming on from the bench.  With Fran Laurie, Andrea Gray, Hannah Gallagher and Sarah-Jane Carter settling into their positions, Wold were back in control of the game after the break.

Chelmsford started to respond and soon found themselves in a strong position and tried to seize their moment and scored their first and only try of the game. Wold responded back with another try from Jaye getting her 2nd try of the game.  Wold then rallied for a long period of the second half fending off the visitor’s advances with an impressive tackle coming from Edie Williamson in front of the crowd. Wold moved up the pitch from a penalty kick from Remy finding touch. With Karen Fletcher now on the pitch, the forward delivered a strong driving lineout with the ball moved quickly to the center and Jaz’s strong running line finally paying off with a try. The last try of the game came from a number 8 pickup, with Laura passing out wide to Lucy putting her away in the corner. Final score was Swallows 44, Chelmsford 5.

L.O.M – Edie Williamson &  Elora Parocki. The Swallows also want to wish Charlie Davies a speedy recovery after fracturing her wrist during the game.
