Norwich Puppet Theatre Launches Early Years Programme
Norwich Puppet Theatre is delighted to welcome Goody & Storey to the Theatre to present their new show STAR on 4 May to launch our Early Years programme. This is a brand new focus to our seasonal programming which focuses on work that is created specifically for 2-5 year olds and other first time theatre-goers. Early Years performances will encourage children to engage their exploratory impulses and curiosity to enable a positive approach to new experiences.
We are pioneering this strand of our work as we believe it is vital to the development of children to introduce them to the arts at an early age. We want to make theatre available to everyone and are proud to be showcasing leading international puppetry companies who specialise in work for young children, as well as creating our own show for 2-4 year olds, Three Colours, which opens at the Theatre in August.
Goody and Storey are regular performers from Norwich Puppet Theatre’s productions of Pied Piper and The Tinderbox. Originally presented in winter 2011 at mac birmingham, STAR is a show created especially for 2-5 year olds. It is an intimate and interactive show which invites its audiences to be amongst the action and discover the magical world of theatre for the first time. As each child arrives they are invited to sit on a star on the floor right in the heart of the beautifully designed set as the story unfolds around them. It is a gentle tale of friendship with warm, welcoming and funny characters who spend too much time on their own and discover that being together is better than life apart.
STAR is told with delightful original music and quirky sound, including live singing and violin. There is lots of inventive object play and simple, playful puppetry, using interesting found objects – some familiar, some new.
Our Early Years events continue on 16 and 30 May when we have Little Tots Workshops. As part of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival we have Mozart with Puppets (Aurora Orchestra and Little Angel Theatre) on 18 May and Italian company La Barracca Testoni Ragazzi bring their show Spot to us on 2 June. Watch this space for more exciting Early Years events in the coming months.
