A new art group aimed at adults who care for an adult family member in and around Stowmarket will meet for the first time at The Stowmarket Community Centre on Thursday 4th January 2018.

Run by family carers Ruth Coomber and Jennie Pears, Creative Process is an informal art group aimed at supporting people who, like them, are caring for a family member.

The group will meet twice a month at Stowmarket Community Centre, to explore and share different creative activities and enjoy a break from their normal routines.  No experience is necessary and carers are welcome to attend either on their own, or with the person for whom they care.

Sessions will take place on the first and third Thursday of the month, 10am – 11.45am, starting on 4th January.

The new art group was inspired by Jennie and Ruth taking part in Suffolk Artlink’s Creative Company project, which was designed to offer adult family carers a chance to take part in relaxing and sociable creative activities.  The project’s aims included creating a volunteer-led art group as a lasting legacy for family carers in the Stowmarket area.

Jennie Pears explains: “The Creative Company art sessions run by Suffolk Artlink gave me the chance to take part in a variety of fun, creative activities, developing forgotten skills and encouraging me to think of new ways to express myself. It has enabled me to have time for myself and given me the chance to share creative experiences with the person I care for.

“I feel that I have gained so much from these sessions, so when the project ended, I decided that I would help to continue running workshops in 2018.

“We aim to make the sessions relaxed and friendly, allowing participants to take part in a variety of creative activities using paint, word, paper, textiles and more.”

There is a small voluntary contribution for each session; no booking required. For more information about the Creative Process art group, please contact Jennie on 07979 452061 or [email protected].
