The Mid-Norfolk Railway proudly presents…..

“STRATFORD WEEKEND”
Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May 2012
[a new 3 day event for 2012].

The MNR is “home” to diesel locomotives 31235, 37003 and 47596 which were based at the [now closed] Stratford Depot; all 3 are “diagrammed” to work, every day of our event.

On Saturday 5th, a reunion will be held at Dereham for former Stratford Depot Staff. It was a major traincrew depot, serving the Eastern Region, especially the Great Eastern Mainline between Norwich and Liverpool Street. Today many of its Drivers and Guards still work for the Railway.

The MNR is connected to the other route to Norwich from Liverpool Street, via Ely. MNR lies close to Norwich and making it the ideal location to mark the 21 years since the closure of Stratford Depot.

MNR’s Event Fares apply. Adult Return £10, Senior £9, Family £26, Day Rover £18, Member Day Rover £12, 3 day Rover £40, 2 day Rover £30. Children at half full adult fares.

Timetable details are outlined below:

Saturday sees 9 return trains from Dereham to Wymondham, first is at 9.30am and last at 7pm.

The Olympic Park and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link now occupy the site of Stratford Depot (30A).

Stratford was built in 1840, in the East End of London, and was well known as a Steam and [latterly] Diesel shed. It closed in 1991. It was known for its attention to detail in the maintenance and overhaul of locomotives; also breaking away from the traditional livery applications, to add things like silver roofs, to otherwise plan blue locomotives.
