Clown Round

Suffolk Artlink’s Clown Doctors return to the children’s wards at Ipswich, Colchester and James Paget Hospitals. This time they are accompanied on their rounds by the trainee Clown Doctors, shadowing provides a valuable opportunity to see how special it is to spread the Clown Round magic dust, resulting in smiling and laughing hospitalised children .

Suffolk Artlink is so very grateful to Author Filomena Cristallino and Illustrator Bee Willey for donating the proceeds from the Children’s interactive book ‘Fidget and Hamish’ to the Clown Round project.

Fidget-and-Hamish

We are excited to announce the launch of Fidget and Hamish this month at The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust.

Meet Fidget and Hamish! Dr Fidget is a clown doctor with loads of energy and a naughty dog, Hamish, who insists on coming to work with her at the hospital. Find out about their escapades in this fantastic new story and colouring book.

Filomena-Cristallino-Dr-Fidget

Filomena Cristallino (Dr Fidget) is one of Suffolk Artlink’s wonderful team of clown doctors, working with the children and young people in hospitals and hospices across the East of England. Filomena brings her work to a new audience through the beautiful interactive book.

Our thanks to artists Kate Munro and Caitlin Howells for making the Activities Unlimited Fun Day such fun – adults and children alike thoroughly enjoyed making shadow puppets and the resulting plays were truly magical. You can see some of the images below:

JumpstART!

JumpstART! students in Bury St Edmunds have been learning about different ways of printing. In the first week they looked into leaf patterns by sticking them on paper or drawing round them. In the second week the done stencils onto t-shirts. In the third week they painted patterns onto silk scarves based on patterns on a church and in the fourth week they made flags.

Rock Up

Great news – we’ve got Youth Music funding to develop Rock Up, a music inclusion project in Lowestoft, enabling us to deliver regular term time sessions at Colville House senior youth club for the next two years.

As well as providing an informal, drop-in session for young people to come and try out different instruments and genres, the project will also offer one-to-one tuition, supported by on-line tutorials, plus band practice, showcase and recording opportunities. Guest tutors, including DJs, beat boxers and music technology tutors – not to mention a chap with a trumpet – will be regular features so roll on – and Rock Up – the next two years.

Culture Club

Creative activities will begin at Alasdair Place in Claydon in October. They will be focusing on candle-making, clay work, decoupage and card making.

Creative-activities

The Gainsborough Library Art Group (for older people living independently within the community) have been focusing on watercolour painting this month, working on landscape and botanical paintings. Additionally the art session with the Sue Ryder Synergy Cafe group (for carers and cared for) went down well, the Artist who led the session, Sara Harrington, facilitated the creation of some beautiful paintings.

We have further sessions with the Sue Ryder Synergy Cafes planned over the next two months, including singing and clay work in the Forest Heath area.
