Creative activities for Carers and Cared For

Clown Round

We would like to say thank you to all involved in raising £620 towards Clown Round through the Fidget and Hamish book. This could not have been done without Filomena Cristallino and Bee Willey, who made the book and helped to promote it, the bookshops across the county that are stocking it – and of course everyone who has bought a copy.

If you haven’t already purchased a copy of the Fidget and Hamish colouring in story book, they are still available from the bookshops found on our  Get Involved page or contact us at Suffolk Artlink.

JumpstART!

The studio project has already started in Bury St Edmunds, where Jacqueline Davies provided a workshop in acrylics, and Lowestoft, where Holly Scholfield delivered a colour and painting session.

Culture Club

Starting this week Culture Club is running sessions in Music and Memories, led by artists Dean Parkin and Maurice Horhut, who will encourage the groups to create poems using music as the starting point to evoke memories, emotions and creativity.

To get a flavour of how to create poems from music and other influences you can see Dean’s page about creating poetry on our MORAG site www.moragarts.org.uk/guide/dean-parkin-poetry/

Creative activities for Carers and Cared For have been taking place at the Bank Arts Centre in Eye this month. Focusing on drawing, painting and print-making so far, the sessions have been led by artist Kate Warner. For more information about the group please contact [email protected].

Rock Up

The first of the Rock Up on line tutorials are now posted to the Rock Up playlist on our Youtube channel.

These are available for general public viewing; over the coming months we will be posting individual tutorials for the young people taking part in the Rock Up one-to-one sessions – these will be private and available only to the student involved.

We also had a great DJ session with Tallulah Goodtimes (www.tallulahgoodtimes.com) and look forward to three more sessions with her after half term.

Suffolk at Play

It was lovely to see so many of the Felixstowe Suffolk at Play group at the town library on Thursday, 29th January, for the launch of the Suffolk at Play Cube exhibition of their animations, booklet and other artefacts created during the project.

Immediately following the public launch, the group convened in the Room at the Top, where much certificate-awarding, congratulations-giving and general thanks-to-everyone took place – oh yes, and a fair degree of cake eating, too.

Our thanks to all those involved, particularly the library staff who were so welcoming and to Chris Ozanne from Felixstowe Academy, who took lots of pictures for the Academy web site, since when the animation has been viewed no fewer than 51 times through their site.

For those of you unable to get to the library to view the Cube and the animations, you can see them by visiting our Suffolk at Play page and also read the booklet here

The Lion, the White Horse and the Mermaid

Although not part of Suffolk Artlink’s activities, there is a free half term event happening in Ipswich in which you may be interested.

On Wednesday 18th of February there is a drawing and drama storytelling workshop, for children under 13, around four landmark features in the centre of Ipswich. Focussing on these features, an Ipswich Tourist guide will illuminate the historic aspects then, working with drama storytelling professional Helen Baggett and artists Bee Willey and Karen Densham, those historic stories will be extended, to make a mural.

The mural will be a memento of this point in history, celebrating the creative input of the community with its local history and its town centre.
