Cards for Good Causes

Cards for Good Causes are selling charity Christmas cards in some of Suffolk’s libraries.
Shoppers can buy cards from more than 25 charities giving customers a varied choice of designs. A selection of designs from the Cards for Good Causes range is now available from Aldeburgh Library, Bungay Library, Hadleigh Library and Halesworth Library. There are also pop-up shops in Stowmarket and Sudbury Libraries where a complete range of designs can be found including wrapping paper and gifts. These are open mainly between 10am and 4pm.

6 December – Lowestoft Library

Lowestoft Library is hosting a book signing with local young author Harriet Alder on Saturday 6 December. Harriet will be signing her sci-fi book ‘The Motives Trilogy’ in the library from 12 noon to 2pm. She went to Lowestoft College and is currently at university in Cambridge.

6 December – Deck the Halls at Hadleigh Library

Hadleigh Library are hosting a Christmas Craft event on Saturday 6 December. Children can take part in a wide range of festive craft activities to make snowman table decorations, baubles, angel tree toppers and more. The event is supported by the Hadleigh Library Friends Group and costs £1.50 per child to cover materials. It runs from 10am to 1pm.

6 December – Southwold Library

There is a coffee morning to support Southwold Library at the Stella Peskett Millennium Hall on 6 December. They’ll be hot drinks, mince pies and biscuits with a cake stall, book stall and raffle. The event runs from 10am to 12noon with all proceeds supporting the library.

7 December – Stoke Library

On Sunday 7 December Stoke Library in Ipswich are holding a Christmas Fair from 10.30am to 1pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy craft stalls, a book sale, tea and cakes and there is a chance to meet Father Christmas. The crafts for sale include handmade cards, wood turning, bags and teddy bears.

13 December – Westbourne Library

The Westbourne Library Friends are holding at Christmas Fair on Saturday 13 December from 12noon to 4pm. The event includes craft activities for children, a book sale, raffle, cake stall and refreshments and a chance to meet Father Christmas!

13 December – Long Melford Library

The Friends of Long Melford Library are holding a Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday 13 December from 9am to 1pm. Members of the Friends group will be serving mince pies and hot drinks and selling hand crafted toys, Christmas decorations and potential Christmas presents of potted bulbs, jams, cakes and mince pies. There will also be a raffle and all money raised will be invested in supporting and developing the library. As well as picking up some gifts it’s a great opportunity to see what the library has to offer.

16 December – Framlingham Library

Framlingham Library is hosting a road safety event on 16 December from 10.30am to 2.30pm. A road safety officer from Suffolk County Council will be encouraging people to have a go at a safe driving simulator.

14 December – Halesworth Library

On Sunday 14 December Halesworth Library is hosting a Craft Fair between 10.0am and 3.0pm. Many individual items for sale handmade by local crafts people as well as homemade cakes and sweets and a spinning demonstration.

18 and 20 December – Ipswich Library

Ipswich Library are holding a Children’s Panto and Christmas Party Special on Thursday 18 December from 10.30am to 11.30am. The theme is the popular children’s book ‘Farmer Duck’ and everyone is welcome.

The library is also hosting a children’s Christmas magic show with Mr Bean Entertainments on Saturday 20 December. There will be two shows – one from 10.30am to 11.30am and one from 12noon to 1pm. Please book tickets in advance from the library. They cost £3 per child including a free ticket for one accompanying adult. There will also be a prize draw to win a magic set.

There will also be a Christmas play reading at Ipswich Library on 20 December. Actor Stephen Boswell will be discussing his new book, Boswell’s Life of Boswell and will be performing a play reading of different Christmas themed sketches in the library’s lecture hall. The event starts at 2.30pm and includes free mulled wine and mince pies. Tickets are available from the library. The event is being supported by the Friends of Ipswich Library.

20 December – Sudbury Library

Sew Crafty at Sudbury Library. Sudbury Library are holding a Christmas themes ‘Sew Crafty’ sewing session for children aged 7-9 on Saturday 20 December from 10 to 11.30am. There is a small charge of £2.00 to cover materials. Please call to book a place on 01787 242570.
