Great Yarmouth is set for a day of spectacular South American circus this week (Saturday 15 July 2017).  SeaChange Arts, the organisation behind the Out There Festival, stage Life’s a Beach, an all-day Latin street party, in what they hope will become another significant annual event for the town.

The free street party will take place on York Road and features circus performances from Mexicans, Colectivo en Breve, SeaChange’s resident company, Dizzy O’Dare and Columbian circus sensations, Circolombia.

Chilli Con Salsa provide Cuban dance demonstrations and workshops and Rabo de Foguete, a ten piece Norwich based band, fuse traditional and contemporary Brazilian rhythms to bring a high-energy carnival feel to proceedings.

Duda Moleque will perform and host a junk percussion workshop, inspired by the recycled instruments he grew up with on the streets of San Paulo, Brazil.  Duda has invented a range of junk instruments including the flipflopaphone – a percussion instrument made from old tubes struck with flip flops.

A range of delicious Latin foods, workshops, beach bar and Pinata contest, with sweets and treats for everyone will complete the daytime celebration.

“We’re hoping the street party will become an annual event,” explained Seachange’s Chief Executive, Joe Mackintosh.  “We’re looking to establish a second annual extravaganza, not necessarily of the scale of the Out There Festival, but capturing its atmosphere and community spirit.”

Audiences will then get the chance to enjoy an exclusive preview of Acéléré – the latest show from Circolombia, in a ticketed performance in The Drill House.  The Colombian troupe comprises graduates of the national circus school, Circo Para Todos – the first school of its kind dedicated to training vulnerable young people.  They’ve gone on to become one of the most exciting and acclaimed international acts in the world.

Then an after show party features DJ Senorita Sombrero who’ll be stirring up Margaritas and rattling maracas to a Mariachi beat.

The Latin Street Party runs from 12 noon to 8pm and is free.  Circolombia’s performance of Acéléré begins at 8pm.  Tickets are between £3 and £12 and are available at seachangearts.org.uk and norwichartscentre.co.uk
