The sun was shining and the brides were smiling as they marched through Bungay on Saturday afternoon to mark the opening of the two-week Bungay Bridal Affair.

A dozen brides – some in their own wedding dresses, some in borrowed, were accompanied from the Community Centre to the Butter Cross by a wedding car playing out the classic Mendelssohn Wedding March kindly supplied by Cosseys as Cossey’s Funeral Parlour also supplies wedding cars. Two Cosseys brides had intended to be in the parade but sadly had to be on duty this Saturday.

From the Butter Cross the brides fanned out across the town, collecting for The Friends of St. Mary’s until called to the church by the bells ringing out: sterling work from Mark Walland who, along with the brides, was treated to a glass of champagne (thanks to Imperial Wine and Threshers) and some locally grown strawberries from Alex the Greengrocer.

As they entered the church the brides stopped to admire the wedding cake model made as a reproduction of the Bridal Affair logo which has the Butter Cross as its top tier.

The Bridal March was followed a few days later, starting on Tuesday 5th June with the display of Bungay brides’ wedding dresses in St. Mary’s, with dresses ranging from weddings in 1937, 1941, the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. All were beautifully staged, set off with floral displays from Susan Curtis of New Beginnings.

The Affair was organised by Didy Ward at www.comvalue.co.uk on behalf of the Chamber of Trade.
