The coming of age of Deepdale Festival
Excitement is already building at Deepdale, with the announcement of the line-up for this year’s Deepdale Festival, the 3rd annual music and arts festival. This year there are almost more acts than permanent residents in the village, consisting of the best original musicians from East Anglia and far beyond.
Chris Haycock, the Festival Director, has put together an incredible line-up for 2019, a programme that has folk at its heart, but shows the eclectic music tastes of Chris and the Crew at Deepdale. Across four stages, Burnham Deepdale will host and support an incredible array of music talent on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th & Sunday 29thSeptember.
“I’ve always loved putting together line-ups, but here at Deepdale I’ve been given the freedom to really develop something with personality and quality. When my invitation to Martin Carthy was accepted, I knew the 2019 Deepdale Festival would be something seriously special.” said Chris Haycock, the Festival Director.
Morganway – Cobbler Bob String Band – Tilly Moses
Friday’s line-up for the Deepdale Festival is very special indeed. Not only does Deepdale have the incredibly exciting Norfolk band of the moment Morganway headlining, they also have the core of the acclaimed Shackleton Trio, supplemented with two hugely talented musicians to become the Cobbler Bob String Band. And the unique and brilliant folk music of Tilly Moses, with her band, fresh from the recording of her second album.
Along with folk stalwarts the John Ward Band, South African Music Award nominee Josie Field, local song writing star Ben Denny Mo and the fantastically gifted guitarist Isaac Dalglish, the Deepdale Festival looks set to live up to its reputation for high quality, wonderfully eclectic original music.
Man The Lifeboats – Kitty Macfarlane – Fred’s House
The Saturday line-up at the Deepdale Festival is just bursting with talent and sparkles with musical gems all the way through the bill, right from the start of the day, so you really won’t want to miss a single act!
The Brick Barn headliners Man The Lifeboats are set to build on their storming Sunday appearance last year, with stomping folk rock impossible not to jump around to. Over on the Orchard Stage, you simply mustn’t miss the wonderful nationally acclaimed Kitty Macfarlane, singing songs from her simply beautiful Namer of Clouds album, followed by classy multi-influenced Cambridge band Fred’s House to close out that stage.
Fran & Flora – Das Fenster & The Alibis – Dove & Boweevil
There are so many other highlights through the day, including classical alt-folk duo Fran & Flora; the voodoo rock of Das Fenster & The Alibis; the electric blues of Dove & Boweevil; rising Norfolk country music star Lucy Grubb and Eastern European influenced folk from Bristol-based Cut Throat Francis.
The Deepdale Crew are also very excited to be joined by the Marham Military Wives Choir for a special performance in St Mary’s Church.
Atmospheric instrumental rock from The Wolf Number sits alongside established singer songwriter Niki Gregory returning to the stage for the first time in a little while; synth/guitar pop from London-based Chile contrasts with eclectic alt-folk masterpieces from local group Wendsum; finely crafted guitar pop songs from Vincent Knightcomplements the delicately honed folk stylings of Nobodaddy.
Martin Carthy – Gentlemen of Few – The Goat Roper Rodeo Band
The Sunday line-up for this year’s Deepdale Festival is simply one you shouldn’t miss!
A full day and evening of stunning music. Deepdale has the great pleasure of welcoming the hugely influential folk music luminary Martin Carthy to the Brick Barn Stage. Intricately entwined with the history and traditions of English folk music from the 1960s to the present day, Martin remains a passionate collector and interpreter of essential musical stories. An unmissable highlight of the weekend!
Closing out the Festival after a barnstorming performance at Deepdale in March are Radio 2 Folk Award nominees, the brilliantly energetic and eclectic Gentlemen of Few, preceded by the country blues of Wales’ finest, The Goat Roper Rodeo Band, fresh from launching their latest album produced by The Magic Numbers’ Romeo Stodart.
Smith & Brewer – The Tin Heart Troubadours with the Heart Strings – Rattlebox
The day is a cornucopia of hugely exciting original roots, Americana and country music from Smith & Brewer; The Tin Heart Troubadours in a special concert in St Mary’s Church with string quartet; local folk band Rattlebox; wonderful local songwriters Marina Florance, Bernard Hoskin and Alton Wahlberg.
Alton is also organising a showcase session for his AWMTV project, supporting and promoting the best new talent in East Anglia – Dusky Sunday, BAILEY, Allie Tooke and Keith Sadler will be performing brunch sets on The Orchard Stage.
Rising local country star Vic Allen with her band, and fantastic Norwich-based alternative rock and soul band Galli complete the full-to-bursting line-up for Sunday.
