The Railway Children comes to Aldeburgh

The Railway Children

By Edith Nesbit

This Is My Theatre’s brand-new adaptation of Edith Nesbit’s much-loved novel is packed with merriment, music and misadventure. The show is sure to be all that This Is My Theatre audiences have come to love about our productions and we are excited to be re-engaging communities with the arts after the past few years we’ve all had!

When their father has to leave their London home unexpectedly, Roberta, Phyllis and Peter leave London and travel with their mother to start a new life in rural Yorkshire. Their love of trains and the nearby railway line lead to new friendships and adventures but the mystery of why their father doesn’t return remains and they must find out and help him come home.

Whilst written more than a century ago, this charming children’s novel still inspires all ages and with folk music throughout, everyone will have their hearts warmed with this captivating adaptation.

Sarah Slator, director of This Is My Theatre said:

“We are very much looking forward to our summer programme this year. We have selected titles and created adaptations to be fun and vibrant to capture imaginations and engage audiences of all ages.

Following successful runs of The Secret Garden (“Awonderful afternoon of entertainment!” – Grapevine Live), The Three Musketeers (“Highly entertaining and a must-see for lovers of outdoor theatre!” ***** – Living Magazines) and many more we are really excited to be continuing our Summer tradition of magical, family-friendly theatre in historic places and atmospheric spaces. A new venture for us, we are really looking forward to crafting a unique adaptation that will remain faithful to the original text whilst suited to the beautiful venues we are due to visit. This will offer our younger and family audiences a magical telling and bring to life a truly beautiful story of fun, friendship and community.

Suitable for audiences of all ages and with live music throughout arranged by the company’s Resident Composer Simon Stallard our adaptation of Edith Nesbit’s much-loved novel is packed with merriment and misadventure and is sure to be all that This Is My Theatre audiences have come to love about our shows!”

About This Is My Theatre

We are a Sussex based theatre company created in 2016 that tours all over the UK with creative productions for all spaces from historic buildings and churches to purpose built theatres and open-air venues.

Whilst the main aim of the company is to produce classical plays and literature that are accessible to all, particularly those living in rural communities, we also create commissioned works to bring to life ideas to venues and engage visitors.

We are delighted to work regularly with various charities and privately owned buildings to offer communities high quality theatre on their doorstep.

About Sarah Slator, director

Sarah founded the company in 2016 after completing a masters degree in direction at Guildford School of Acting. She has worked for a number of renowned theatres including Chichester Festival Theatre, The Hawth Theatre and Brighton Open Air Theatre, and has worked on both UK and international tours for companies as a movement director.

Previously Head of Dance and a teacher of Drama at secondary level education, Sarah has a passion for working with young people and teachers to engage and excite them in classical literature.
