THE YEAR OF FOOD AND FARMING
GET YOUR BOOTS MUDDY!!

Did you know?

The Year of Food and Farming kicked off on the 12th September… now is a good time to start thinking about how you can get involved.

The Year of Food and Farming is a national campaign to connect children and adults with farming, food and the countryside.

During the year, there will be lots of inspirational activities going on around the country all aimed at creating a better understanding and appreciation of the land and where our food comes from. It’s a fantastic opportunity for farmers and related businesses to meet the public and tell them about what farmers do.

leafLEAF will be carrying out on-going visits to our LEAF Demonstration Farm network throughout the year and we will be focusing on another successful Open Farm Sunday on the 1st June 2008.

There are lots of ways to get involved. Start by registering your support on www.yearoffoodandfarming.org.uk

This will keep you informed of activities and opportunities within your region and what’s happening around the country. What you do is really up to you – it can be as much or little as you like. By simply registering on the site you’ll be letting people know where you are and what you do.

Why not consider…

• Hosting an Open Farm Sunday event on the 1st June
• Encouraging others to visit their nearest LEAF Demonstration Farm

• Offering your farm or businesses premises for a school visit

• Holding an event or a farm walk to educate, inspire and network with other farmers or local groups

• Going into your local school so they can “Meet a Farmer” and talk about what you do

• Growing something for a school either in the school grounds or on your farm

• Providing produce or materials for a local activity or event

• Being available for press and media for comment or filming – don’t forget the LEAF Speak Out toolkit to help deal with those tricky questions!

• Sparing some time at a show or festival to talk about what you do

So, please, get involved and do your bit for the Year of Food and Farming.
