The Waveney Valley is situated on the Norfolk/Suffolk boundary, and is steeped in history, arts and heritage linking it to both counties, it has a vibrant community, and contains some of the most beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife in East Anglia.

Three things we do to Enjoy England in the Waveney Region

One – Walking in the East Anglian countryside
The Norfolk/Suffolk border has a rich and diverse wildlife, and a walk down a country lane in the autumn puts all life’s issues into perspective.

The air still warm, but moved by a gentle breeze, and loosening the first leaves off of the trees. The chance to pick blackberries from the hedgerow, or take the family out to collect conkers, truly the most English of things to do.

Two – Visiting our fantastic coastline at any time of the year
Both Norfolk and Suffolk beaches are within a stones throw of the Waveney Valley, Suffolk towns such as Southwold, and Aldeburgh have great heritage and culture, and are always well worth with a visit.

Then there is Walberswick, always a great place for taking the family for a bit of crabbing, young and old can compete, all you need is a length of string, a stone weight and a piece of streaky bacon, the crabs provide the rest of the fun!

Norfolk beaches have vast expanses of sand, and provide great beach combing any time of the year, and with luck you will spot the odd seal paying a visit to the bays such as at SeaPalling, where the colour of the sea is almost unbelievable at times.

Three – Tom Tiddling in the River Waveney
On a lovely summers afternoon, there is nothing better, even ‘ratty’ would agree I’m sure, messing about in the river with a net, catching tom tiddlers, and watching them in a bucket. Warm sun on your face, and the coolness of the river flowing through your toes.

Listening to the children’s excited laughter at seeing their first ‘tiddler‘ in the net. It costs nothing, but a perfect family time that will always be remembered by each generation, passing on the ‘skills of Tom Tiddling’ to their children.
